Politics and Personality

So if you're a Republican, you're supposed to vote for Huckabee because Chuck Norris thinks he's cool. If you're a Democrat, you're supposed to vote for Obama because Oprah thinks he's cool.

What happened to taking responsibility for finding out what candidates have to offer? Not for nothing, but the Junior Senator from Illinois (who ran unopposed in that election), has been spending all of his time campaigning for president. I'm not impressed that he's not even doing the job he ran for and was elected to do because he;s too busy jumping for the golden ring. And you know what? Illinois isn't in great enough shape that he can pull this off. He can target Hillary all he wants as being too entrenched, too comfortable with the system, but perhaps he's forgetting what happened when Hillary refused to work with Congress during Clinton's first term. She had the same attitude as Obama, and was shut out completely.

I think we're in a good spot - the Democratic candidates are all competent, although I do prefer some to others, and I outright dislike John Edwards; how anyone can interpret his speeches as sincere is beyond me, but apparently he "touches" people.

Hillary plays it way too safe for me, but she's smart, capable, and her cabinet would rock.

Who do I like? Richardson. He's real, he's smart, and he's not afraid to be honest and direct. I like Biden too; his abrasiveness notwithstanding. I'll take abrasive over oily any day. (Ahem, John Edwards.)

What would it take for Richardson to become a front-runner?

I wonder what Nelson Mandela is doing these days....
